It all started in 1973, when the first Women Inter State cricket tournament was organized in India. It was a difficult few years for inciting enthusiasm and support. But after the first appearance for Indian team in 1978 World Cup, things started to look brighter for the future. In 2005, the Indian women team reached their first ever World Cup final, and since then has prospered in World cricket. Here are the list of such players, who have been a major contributor to the success of the Indian women cricket team.

1. Mithali Raj
The legendary Mithali Raj has amassed the most runs for the Indian team in the ODI and T20I format, and has been impressive in test matches as well. She is the only player to have featured in more than 200 ODIs, and certainly is the greatest player of All Time. In 327 matches across all formats, Mithali has garnered 10695 runs, with 8 tons.

2. Jhulan Goswami
One of the finest fast bowlers in World Cricket, Jhulan Goswami is the leading wicket taker in the ODI format with 247 scalps. With proper line lengths and ability to swing the ball both ways, she has been a terrific performer over the years and has helped the team to win many matches by her contributions.

3. Anjum Chopra
The performances of the former captain of the Indian women’s team helped the game to prosper in the country. Anjum Chopra played for India from 1995 to 2012, and groomed the players like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. In 157 matches, Anjum scored 3645 runs.

5. Harmanpreet Kaur
The fifth on the list is Harmanpreet Kaur, who is also the captain of Indian T20I team. She has amassed more than 5000 runs in international cricket, with 4 centuries. Her unbeaten innings of 171* helped the Indian team to reach the 2017 World Cup finals. Along with the bat, she has displayed her capability with the ball as well.
