But we are here, discussing statistics so more about that later. Anyway, let us jump into the Eastern Conference cult classic battle between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks.

The Sixers are on a three-game winning streak and bringing James Harden has already paid huge dividends. The East is a tough ladder to climb this season and despite acquiring Harden, the road ahead is difficult for Philly. However, the small sample size indicates that those Eastern teams are in full for a big job against the squad.

On the other hand, the Knicks are an opposite story. They remain far removed from the Play-in tournament race and each month, they only fall off the radar. They have been struggling to stay efficient on the offensive end and with multiple players struggling from the floor, this season has been a huge disappointment.

76ers: Blessed with a strong duo of Embiid-Harden
Why is James Harden working out with Embiid so far and didn’t feel comfortable around Durant and Irving? Well, first, James didn’t even play many games with Durant and Irving, secondly, those two need the ball a lot in their hands which disrupts Harden’s rhythm who is used to running the show. When he is with Embiid, he can run effective Pick and Rolls as Joel is a Center and can dash to the rim with full force. Harden can have the major ball-handling duties to himself and Tyrese Maxey, the other Guard, has adjusted brilliantly to his inclusion. The biggest reason for that is Harden’s willingness to act as a playmaker and set up teammates.

This doesn’t mean that two games are enough to indicate that Philly is primed for a championship. The Eastern Conference can be a tough nut to crack and although a Maxey-Harden-Thybulle-Harris-Embiid lineup is surely well-balanced, the Heat looks deeper, DeRozan is cookin’ for the Bulls while Celtics have built a strong defense. And let us not forget the Bucks, the defending champions, a team that may turn it around soon. This is not an easy Conference because the race to the top has been intense from the word go. However, one thing is for sure, adding Harden to the squad has surely bolstered the dreams of achieving a championship.

Knicks: They are a trainwreck
The Knicks have been criticized heavily this season and that is due to their inability to field an effective offensive squad on a regular basis. This is a concern that first came to the display during last season’s Playoffs. Tim Thibodeau’s philosophy of grit and grind defense coupled with a slowed version of offense hasn’t worked out for this team and there are so many issues to address. The team has played without a slashing wing and even though RJ Barrett is a brilliant driver and shooter, he plays at guard. But then the biggest issue has been Julius Randle’s out-of-control play and perhaps he is just disgruntled with the Franchise at this point.

Ah, how times change, last season Randle was an apple of the eye of the Knicks fans, this season has been outright booed and has cursed the fans too, a totally broken relationship at this point. To be honest, it is tough to blame either party. The Knicks are virtual without a Point Guard and at this point, only Derrick Rose can provide some semblance of playmaking at the one-guard position. Evan Fournier has had a decent season but can have his shooting woes. Alec Burks’ offense has been off all season long, Immanuel Quickley is highly inconsistent, Robinson provides serviceable rebounding and helps defense, but the offense remains a problem for the Knicks. Can they turn the tables and get near the Play-in race soon? I doubt.
