IPL 2022: Mayank Agarwal Punjab Kings Captain Announced for the upcoming tournament

Punjab Kings Captain: In a massive breaking news development, Mayank Agarwal has been announced as the new Punjab Kings captain for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The upcoming season of the IPL is all set to kickstart from 26 March. During the league-stage of the cash-rich T20 league, a total of 55 matches are scheduled to be played in Mumbai while as many as 15 games will take place in Pune.

Punjab Kings have now officially announced that Mayank Agarwal will be leading the Punjab-based IPL franchise in the upcoming season. Earlier Mayank was the first retention by Punjab Kings team for a whopping price of INR 12 Crore while left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was also retained for an amount worth INR 4 Crore. The Karnataka batsman has been an integral part of the Punjab-based IPL side since 2018 and will now be hoping to lead the side this year to their maiden title.

“I have been at Punjab Kings since 2018 and I take a lot of pride in representing this fantastic unit. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the team. I take over this responsibility with utmost sincerity, but at the same time, I believe my job would be made easier with the talent we have at the Punjab Kings squad this season,” said Mayank Agarwal on his appointment as Punjab Kings captain for IPL 2022.

“Mayank has been an integral part of the side since 2018 and of the leadership group for the last two years. The new squad we selected at the recently concluded auction has exciting young talent and outstanding experienced players.

IPL 2022 Start Date

With a total of 10 teams, the Indian Premier League 2022 season will be played in a new format. The 10 IPL franchises are divided into two groups with Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) placed in Group A. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT) comprise of Group B.

Each team will play twice against their respective group members and the team in the same row in the second group. Against the remaining teams of the other group, each team will play only once.
