Kohli asked if Cook had second thoughts about his retirement
Alastair Cook ended his Test career on a high note and raised the curtains to his career with a surreal ton. He had a torrid summer but he scored 71 runs in the first innings and he then followed it up with a blistering knock of 147 runs in the second innings.
His knock not only scripted a fairy-tale finish for his illustrious career, it also etched his name into the history books as England posted a total of 423/8 on the board.
Following his ton, people began to speculate whether Cook will reverse his decision of retirement. Indian skipper Virat Kohli also echoed similar sentiments and couldn’t stop himself from asking the same question from the retiring cricketer.
Kohli wishes Alastair Cook all the luck
“I asked him on the field if he was having second thoughts on his retirement because he made 147 in the match. He said ‘no, not at all’. He was just enjoying his game all over again.”
“I would like to congratulate Alastair Cook him on an amazing career. We understand how difficult batting can be even if one player plays here. His ability to score runs all over the world shows how determined he was.”
India lost the fifth and the final Test against England by 118 runs. Indian batsmen showed great determination in India’s second innings where Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul scored centuries to narrow the loss margin. However, after KL Rahul’s wicket, the team crumbled within the next 13 overs and India lost the series against England by 4-1.
