The final knock of Alastair Cook’s astonishing career came to an end on the fourth day of the final Test match between England and India.
Alastair Cook said that the final knock of his glittering career had contained some of the most “surreal” days of his cricketing life which saw him signing off with an impeccable 147 in his final innings for England in whites.
His family was present at the Oval to witness him play for one last time and he did not disappoint any of them by playing a knock which not only helped him sign off his International career in style but also took his team into a formidable position from where a win definitely looks in grasp.
The veteran left-hander reached his 33rd ton in a bizzare fashion by getting four overthrows and on the course also surpassed Kumar Sangakkara to become the 5th highest run-getter in Test cricket with a tally of 12,472 runs.
The former English skipper was overwhelmed with his achievements and said, “It was difficult t put his achievements into words”. He added, ” It’s been the most surreal four days of my life really, I suppose if she (his wife Alice) goes into labour tonight that will probably top it off but it’sbeen incredble”.
When asked if it was his best day ever in cricket, he described it by saying ” it’s a different day’. Healso admitted that the match was an emotional one for him with his family and friends watching him play, which certainly brought different kind of pressure on him.
Cook has made it clear despite ofhis valuable knock which saw him timing the ball crisply as ever has no second thoughts on his retirment and will remain robust on his decision.
He also said that he hoped to round off his Test career with a win against the top-ranked Test side in the world which would help them gain a 4-1 series victory over India.
His services for the English national side as a player is over but he still has a desire to play for his county side Essex for the next season.
He quoted, “I would also like to thank Essex County Cricket Club for their help and support ever since i was 12, and i can’t wait to get fully involved with them in the 2019 season. I wish the England team every success in the future, and i will be watching with great excitement.”
