IND vs WI: In an important news development, India’s captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed his opening partner for the upcoming first ODI match against West Indies scheduled on 6 February at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Right before the start of the white-ball series against West Indies at home, India suffered a massive Covid-19 outbreak in their camp as the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Navdeep Saini tested positive for the virus alongside four support staff members.

The All India Senior Selection Committee had earlier announced that the duo of Mayank Agarwal and Ishan Kishan have been added to the India ODI squad. With Shikhar and Gaikwad both ruled out of contention, India captain Rohit Sharma has now officially confirmed that Ishan Kishan will open the batting in the first ODI against West Indies with him on Sunday. Rohit also mentioned that Mayank is yet to complete his mandatory 3-day quarantine period and thus, he is still not available for selection. Also, in a noticeable mention, KL Rahul will only be available from the 2nd ODI onwards due to his sister’s marriage.

“Ishan Kishan will open the innings with me. He is the only option we are left with. Mayank Agarwal was added to the squad but, he is still in quarantine according to the rules that’ve been set”, said Rohit Sharma during the press conference ahead of the first ODI against the West Indies.
