Asia Cup Winners List – Asia cup has mostly gained popularity due to the India-Pakistan clash. The arch-rivals due to political tensions don’t play bilateral series and therefore only clash with each other in ICC events or Asia Cup. In all, there have been 14 editions of the tournament and it’s fair to say that India has dominated the tournament as they have clinched the title record seven times.

The first edition of the Asia Cup, which was hosted in UAE, saw Team India emerge victoriously. The ‘Men in Blue’ defeated Sri Lanka in the final. The Lanka lions then won the second edition in 1986, where they ponded Pakistan to clinch the title at their home.

The next three editions of the Asia Cup in 1988, 1990/91 and 1995, which took place in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and UAE respectively saw the Indian cricket team pounding Sri Lanka on all three occasions. They defeated them by 7 wickets in 1990/91 and then retained their title in 1995 by 8 wickets.
Sri Lanka then retained the favour in the 1997 Asia Cup, after they defeated India in their home to clinch their second title. Pakistan then created history in 2000, when they lifted their first-ever title by beating Island nation in Bangladesh. Sri Lanka, however, then came back strong and won the titles in the next two editions, in 2004 and 2008 respectively.

After not winning the title for four editions, India managed yet another Asia Cup win in 2010 when they defeated Sri Lanka at their home in the final. Pakistan and Sri Lanka won the tournament in the next two editions respectively in 2012 and 2014. In 2016, Asia Cup was organised in T20 format. It saw India turn victorious. The Asian heavyweights defeated Bangladesh in the final to claim their 6th title.
How many times India won the Asia Cup?
The Rohit Sharma-led side retained Asia Cup title in 2018 after they yet again pounded Bangladesh in the final to win their seventh Aisa Cup trophy.
