India has produced Test greats in the form of Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid to name a few. The nation has always managed to produce world-class batters and it is no surprise that they have managed to score 700+ in an innings on four different occasions.

In this article, we will have look at India’s highest score in Test cricket over the years. India have managed to score 600+ runs in an innings on several occasions, but remain one of the only few sides to have breached the 700 run barrier on multiple occasions.

India’s second highest score in Test cricket was against Sri Lanka at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in 2009. The hosts batted for 163.3 overs, scoring 726 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. India also managed to score 707 runs against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2010, which is their third highest score.
Out of all 700+ scores, the most iconic of all remains India’s score of 705/7 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2004. Sachin Tendulkar remained unbeaten at 241 runs, whereas, VVS Laxman played another stellar innings, scoring 178 runs.

Indi’s highest score in Test cricket in a single innings came against England in Chennai in 2016. The hosts smashed 759 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their first innings. It was absolute carnage from Indian batters, as KL Rahul just fell one run short of his double hundred, after being dismissed for 199 runs.
Karun Nair played a splendid innings, scoring 303 runs off just 381 balls. The right-handed batter smashed 32 boundaries and four sixes during his knock, and remained unbeaten. Eventually, it turned out to be an easy win for India, as the hosts won by an innings and 75 runs.
