SA vs IND: Virat Kohli to SKIP South Africa ODIs – REPORT

SA vs IND ODI – In a massive breaking news, Virat Kohli has reportedly made himself unavailable for three-match ODI series against South Africa scheduled to start in January 2022. After the conclusion of the three-match Test series, both the teams are scheduled to play three ODI matches on 19, 21 and 23 January, 2022 respectively. Incidentally, newly appointed ODI captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the three-match Test series in South Africa due to hamstring injury and his participation in the ODIs also remains doubtful.
Virat Kohli to Skip South Africa ODIs
According to a Times of India report, Virat Kohli had informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in advance that he would not be available for the three ODIs against South Africa as he wants to take a break in early January 2022. The former ODI skipper revealed that since the ODI series coincides with the first birthday of his daughter, Vamika, thus, he will not be able to take part in the Proteas ODI series.
However, in a noticeable mention, Virat Kohli’s daughter’s birthday is on 11 January which is also the start date for the third Test match between South Africa and India in Cape Town. But there is no official confirmation yet whether Virat will be available for the ODI series or not.

There have been certain media reports doing the rounds that Virat Kohli will make himself unavailable for the South Africa ODI series following his controversial sacking as the ODI captain. However, currently, Rohit Sharma is also very much likely to miss the three-match ODI series against the Proteas. Thus, it will be really interesting to see who will be the Indian captain for the limited-overs games in South Africa next month.

Also, after their sensational performances in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22, the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer are expected to receive their maiden call-up to the India ODI team.
