Team India had a decent outing on the first of the first Test match at Green Park, Kanpur. Shubman Gill dominated the proceedings for the hosts, however, New Zealand bowlers chipped in and kept taking wickets at regular intervals until the duo of Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the innings and took their team in a comfortable position at the stumps on Day 1.
The visitors made a great comeback in the first session of Day 2 and dismissed two overnight batters Ravindra Jadeja Shreyas Iyer along with Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel.
Shreyas Iyer smashes maiden Test ton
Continuing with the overnight team score of 258/4, Shreyas Iyer looked a class apart and positive in the middle. He smashed Kyle Jamieson for two boundaries in the second over of the day to assert his authority. While Ravindra Jadeja on the other hand was very watchful and was unlucky as he only managed to chop on the delivery from Tim Southee, without adding to his overnight tally of 50 runs.

The wicket of Jadeja brought Wriddhiman Saha to the crease, but his stay on the crease was cut short by Tim Southee for just 1 run. Meanwhile, Iyer continued to score runs and paved his way through his maiden Test century. R Ashwin, who came to bat at 8, joined hands with the debutant and stitched 17 run partnership with him until the latter was caught by Will Young off Tim Southee for 106 runs.
R Ashwin and Axar Patel then were very watchful but the class of Tim Southee was too much for the latter as he nicked one off for 3 runs. Ashwin on the other hand kept ticking the scorecard and took India’s score past 330 runs.
At Lunch on Day 1, India are 339/8 with R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav unbeaten at the crease on 38 and 4 respectively.

IND vs NZ: Tim Southee shines for New Zealand on Day 2
Kiwi bowler Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors on day 2 of the first Test match at Kanpur. The right-arm pacer bowled tight lines and jolted Team India with the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja in the third over the day and then a few overs later followed it with the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha.
If this was not enough, Southee dismissed centurion Shreyas Iyer for 106 runs and bowled sensationally to Axar Patel and removed him for 3 runs to complete his 13th five-wicket haul in the Test cricket.
