Most Sixes in ODI – Cricket is a game that is followed with keen interest across the globe. With new formats adding in, the game is becoming even more exciting and enthralling. Most sixes in ODI match
Let’s have a look at players with the most sixes in the 50-overs format of the game.
England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan leads the charts for most sixes in ODI innings, the southpaw smashed 17 sixes against Afghanistan in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 encounter. The World-cup winning skipper scored 148 runs in that match and broke Rohit Sharma’s record of most sixes in the match.
The second on the list is India’s very own ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma. The holder of the three double hundreds in ODI smashed 16 sixes against Australia in 2013 in Bengaluru. The right-handed batsman went on to score 209 runs. He held the record for most sixes in ODI innings for 7 years until it was broke by Eoin Morgan.
‘Mr.360’ AB de Villiers stands with Rohit Sharma in the list of most sixes in ODI match as he also smashed 16 sixes in the ODI innings. The swashbuckling batsman achieved his feat during the game against West Indies when he scored 149 runs in just 44 balls at Johannesburg.
‘The Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle is next on the list of most sixes in an ODI match. The southpaw hit 16 big sixes against Zimbabwe in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. The veteran batsman went on to score 215 runs in that match. He is followed by former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson who smashed 15 sixes in an innings against Bangladesh in 2011 at Dhaka. He amassed 185 runs in 96 balls in that match.
Former New Zealand player Corey Anderson stands fifth in the list of most sixes in an ODI match. The all-rounder smashed 14 sixes in a match against West Indies in 2014 at Queenstown and went on to score 131 runs in that innings. And just behind him is former West Indian player Xavier Marshall who smacked 12 sixes in his knock of 157 runs against Canada in 2008.
Apart from being no.2 on the list of most sixes in ODI match, Indian opener Rohit Sharma acquires the seventh spot in the list as well. He cleared the fence 12 times during his innings of 208 runs against Sri Lanka in 2017 and is followed by Lanka batting great Sanath Jayasuriya who scored 11 sixes against the Singapore cricket team in 1996.
The two players on the list of most sixes in ODI match are Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and West Indies’ Dinesh Ramdin. Both the batsmen smashed 11 sixes Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 1996 and 2014 respectively.
