India captain Virat Kohli has regained the summit of the ICC Test rankings for batsmen after his player-of-the-match performance in the visitor’s 203-run win over England at Nottingham.
Kohli accumulated exactly 200 runs (97 & 103) for the second time in the series after his 149 & 51 at Birmingham to leapfrog former Aussie skipper Steven Smith and reclaim the No.1 spot. Kohli has now moved to a career-best 937 ranking points and sits just one point outside the coveted list of batsmen with the highest-ever rating points- a list spearheaded by Sir Donald Bradman (961).
With a 203-run win, Kohli also surpassed Sourav Ganguly’s record of 21 Test wins for India and is now second in the list of most successful Test captains behind MS Dhoni (27 wins). Kohli en-route to his 16th Test hundred as captain leapfrogged Smith (15) and now sits third in the list of captains with most 100s, spearheaded by former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith (25 hundred in 193 innings) and Ricky Ponting at second with 19 in 140 innings.
