It has been only one month and the second edition of the World Test Championship (2021-23) has already been a host to some thrilling contests. The series between England and India has caught the attention of almost every cricket lover. The two nations have left no stone unturned and have matched each other blow for blow. The five-Test series currently stands at 1-2 with the Virat Kohli-led side in lead. With just one test match remaining, it remains to be seen if visitors can script history and win the Test series in England for the first time since 2007.
World Test Championship Points Table updated after the Oval Test between England and IndiaÂ
Team India registered one of the most memorable Test wins against England and won their first Test match at The Oval cricket ground since 1970. Virat Kohliâs men displayed great grit and skills to register their second win of the World Test Championship (2021-23) by beating Joe Root-led side in a comprehensive 157 runs victory. Earlier in the series, the visitors’ defeated hosts in the Lordâs Test match by 151 runs but England came back strongly to thump India by innings and 76 runs at Headingley.

With a 157-run victory over England, Team India has gained 12 points in the ICC World Test Championship points table. The Virat Kohli-led side, as of 7th September, has 26 points to their name from four matches. On the other hand, England has 14 points in the same number of Tests.
Pakistan and West Indies, who played a two-Test series a few days back, have 12 points each with one loss and one win while the rest of the teams are yet to start their World Test Championship campaign.

Overview of The Oval Test matchÂ
The fourth Test match between England and India at The Oval cricket ground was at its thrilling best. Asked to bat first, Team India didnât have the greatest of first innings. Even though skipper Virat Kohli and Shardul Thakur notched up half-centuries, but the visitors managed only 191 runs in the first innings.
Wit the ball, the Indian bowlers were spot on and put English batsmen under tremendous pressure after as half of their side was back in the dressing room for just 65 runs. However, Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow joined hands together and bailed the hosts out of trouble. Crucial contributions from lower-order including a half-century by Chris Woakes helped the Joe Root-led take a lead of 99 runs.
Team Indian then displayed a sensational batting display in the second essay and on account of Rohit Sharmaâs first overseas century and half-centuries by Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant posted a mammoth target of 368 runs to chase. Chasing the target, English openers gave their team a perfect start and it seemed that Indiaâs chances of winning the match are decreasing.However, Indian bowlers once again took the challenge to themselves and came out all guns blazing to bowl out England for 210 runs to bag an emphatic victory of 157 runs and take a lead of 1-2 in the series.
