T20 World Cup 2021: Ben Stokes’ participation in ICC mega event doubtful

The countdown for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 17th October, has begun. The ICC has already revealed the itinerary for the mega event and with less than one week remaining for the deadline of the squad announcement, the boards of the respective nations will be under immense pressure about who to pick and whom not to pick. Among all the teams Australia and New Zealand have named their squad while fans of other nations are eagerly waiting for their teams to name their squad for the global event.

Ben Stokes doubtful for upcoming T20 World Cup 

In what will be the major blow for the England cricket team, premier all-rounder Ben Stokes is most likely to miss the ICC T20 World Cup, to be played in UAE.

The southpaw took an indefinite break from the game of cricket with immediate effect to concentrate on his mental health and pulled himself out of the ongoing Test series between England and India and the second phase of the IPL 2021.

Although there’s no official confirmation about the English all-rounder taking part in the upcoming T20 World Cup, a source close to Ben Stokes revealed that the southpaw is not thinking about cricket at the moment.

“He is not even thinking about cricket at the moment,” a source close to Ben Stokes said.

T20 World Cup 2021: Ben Stokes’ absence will leave a huge void for England 

If reports are to be believed regarding Ben Stokes missing the upcoming T20 World Cup, it will huge setback for the England cricket team as, over the years, the premier all-rounder has been one of the mainstays for Eoin Morgan-led side.

Even though he was at the receiving end of thumping by Carlos Brathwaite in the last over of the T20 World Cup 2016, the 30-year-old has improved his game drastically since then and has single-handedly won many matches for his nation. Overall in 34 T20Is, Stokes has scored 442 runs at an impressive strike rate of 136.84. In the bowling department, the Englishman has scalped 19 wickets at an economy rate of just over 8.
