Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has recently returned from Pakistan after attending the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Imran Khan and Siddhu have played for the national cricket teams of Pakistan and India and they share a cordial relation with each other.

Although Sidhu’s visit to the neighbouring country sparked off some controversies, it clearly sent out a message of a revival of ties between the two nations.

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has already called for resolving issues between both the countries through dialogues and now his friend Navjot Singh Sidhu has put forth an idea of resuming the cricketing ties between India and Pakistan.

In a video, Siddhu is seen talking with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senator Faisal Javed where he talked about a three-match series between the winners of the IPL and PSL.

“Cricket takes us to a whole new level,” Siddhu was quoted as saying before he left for Lahore after attending Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad.

“A match between the winning team of the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Premier League sounds a good idea,” he said.

PSL champions, Islamabad United coach Dean Jones backed Sidhu’s idea and said that they were keen to take on the challenge.

Dean Jones wrote in his tweet, “Well I know @IsbUnited are keen… Do the @BCCI @IPL and @ChennaiIPL have the same interest?”

Imran Khan was the captain of Pakistan cricket team when they won the World Cup in 1992. He had secured the most number of seats in the general elections.

Imran Khan had also invited former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar to his swearing-in ceremony.

Siddhu has been on the receiving end of criticism after he hugged Pakistan army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa at the oath-taking ceremony.

Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister jumped to the rescue of Sidhu and thanked Sidhu for coming to Pakistan.
