Things are falling apart for England. After outplaying India in the second Test, the hosts suddenly find themselves in all sorts of troubles. Their openers continued their horror show while India’s batsmen have found form. The slip catching continues to frustrate the team and Stuart Broad has also been reprimanded by ICC.
And now the freak injury to Jonny Bairstow, the team’s de facto wicket-keeper, and the best batsmen has added to England’s woes. During India’s second innings, Bairstow injured his left hand while collecting a delivery from James Anderson. The ball wobbled in the air after passing the stumps and Bairstow failed to predict the movement of the ball as it crashed on the middle finger of his left hand. The blow was surely painful as Bairstow was seen rolling on the ground and left the field immediately.
He was soon sent for X-ray scans and the results are anything but a good news for England. The reports suggest that Bairstow has sustained a minor fracture on the middle finger of his left hand. It seems that the injury didn’t affect Bairstow a lot as he came to bat in England’s second innings at number seven.
According to England team management Bairstow’s injury will be assessed in the upcoming days and then only they will take a call on his selection for the next Test. The team’s assistant coach, Paul Farbrace said that Bairstow should be okay as it is not a displaced break. And it is just about managing the pain level.
England will not face any difficulties in passing on the wicket-keeping gloves if Baristow’s injury sustains as Jos Butler is already present in the team and with a hundred in the second innings, his batting form seems alright as well.
But England’s major concern will be the batting order as Bairstow is holding their fragile middle order. If he misses out on the fourth Test which starts on August 30, then England will have a big hole to fill in the batting department.
