World Test Championship Points Table Update after Lord's Test, as on 17 August

The second edition of the World Test Championship (2021-23) kicked off earlier this month with five-Test series between England and India.

While the first Test between the nations ending in a draw, the two cricketing heavyweights matched each other blow for blow in the second Test match but in the end, visitors turned out to be the winners. Notably, England finished 4th in the WTC 2019-21 cycle and India on the other side, finished as the runner-up.

Team India registered one of the most memorable Test wins against England at ‘Mecca of Cricket’ Lord’s. Virat Kohli’s men displayed great grit and skills to register their first win of the World Test Championship (2021-23) by beating Joe Root-led side in a comprehensive 151 runs victory.

With a 151-run victory over England, Team India has secured the number one position in the ICC World Test Championship points table. The Virat Kohli-led side, as of 17th August, has 14 points to their name from two matches. On the other hand, England is placed third with only two points in the same number of Tests.

So far only four teams have played matches in the second edition of the WTC. While India and West Indies have secured points with a win each, Pakistan and England are yet to register a win.

What Virat Kohli said after the win at Lord’s?

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli was super proud of his team after a 151-runs victory over England. He admitted that tension in the field helped them to come back hard. The 32-year-old added that even though he was part of the Test team that won at Lord’s in 2014 but this victory was special as they bowled out the opposition just under 60 overs.

“Super proud of the whole team. The way we stuck to our plans after being put in. The pitch didn’t offer much in the first three days. The first day was the most challenging. The way we played in the second innings after being put under pressure – Jasprit and Shami were outstanding. We had the belief we can get them out in 60 overs. The tension in the field in our second innings, what happened there, helped us. Have been a part of the winning Test last time under MS. That was pretty special. But this one, to get a result in 60 overs is quite special,” Virat Kohli said.
