The ongoing second Test match between England and India is taking place at Lord’s cricket ground. The Virat Kohli-led side displayed a sensational show with the bat on Day of the 1 Test match. The openers gave a dream start to their team and became the first opening pair to add 100-plus runs at Lord’s in 21st Century. Even though wickets fell at the other end, but KL Rahul stood tall and scored an exceptional century.

Kl Rahul stands tall for Team India with a masterful century 

After showing great grit and resilience in the first two sessions, KL Rahul once again led the charge for Team India in the final session of Day 1 at Lord’s. The right-handed batsman along with skipper Virat Kohli steadied the Indian ship after losing the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara and stitched up the 100 plus partnership for the third wicket.

The Karnataka batsman after being very watchful in the first two sessions shows signs of aggression in the last session and kept scoring boundaries at regular intervals. During the last hour of the play, KL Rahul paved his way through the well-composed century and became only the third India opener to get his name engraved on the Lord’s honours board.

Skipper Virat Kohli showed great support to KL Rahul but just few overs before the stumps, the Indian skipper nicked one off and perished for 42 runs. The hosts finished the day on high by sending opposition skipper back in hut as on stumps Team India were 276/3 with Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul unbeaten at the crease on 1 and 127 respectively.

Considering the overcast conditions, English skipper Joe Root won the toss and decided to field first. Bowlers James Anderson and Ollie Robinson started well and made life difficult for batsmen with their testing lines, giving away only 8 runs in the first eight overs. However, after getting settled, Rohit Sharma took the attack to the opposition by targeting Sam Curran. KL Rahul on the other end was at his defensive best.

Both openers looked very comfortable at the crease and proceeded confidently without giving any chances to English bowlers and at the same time punished the bad deliverers. The duo stitched up a well-compiled 126-run partnership in 43.4 overs before Rohit Sharma perished on an incoming delivery from James Anderson.
