Neeraj Chopra Gold Medal Winner: Cash Prize Announcements by Govt of India and others

It has been a historic Olympics for the Indian contingent with the best ever meal tally. With 1 Gold, 2 Bronze, and 4 Silver Medals, the whole country is proud of the athletes and praising their efforts of performing well in the world’s biggest sporting competition. The women’s hockey team scripted history after qualifying for the semi-finals for the fist time in the history of Olympics, where men’s team won a medal after 41 years. But, the most talked about player today is Neeraj Chopra who won the first ever Gold medal for Indian in Athletics. He threw a javelin for 87.58 m to create history.
Cash Prize announced for Neeraj Chopra
The athlete Neeraj Chopra has been lauded by Indian as well as Pakistan audience for his breakthrough performance in the final round of Javelin throw. The Pakistani people have congratulated the player on social media and praised the efforts of the government and sports authority to give a good support and training facilities. It was primarily targeted towards Pakistan government who did not care to provide fine facilities to the Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem who was also in the finals and did not perform well.

Chopra, who joined Abhinav Bindra to win Individual Gold in Olympics has been awarded cash prize by governments, BCCI, and Chennai Super Kings franchise. Here are the prizes announced,
- As Chopra hails from Haryana, the state government has awarded a cash prize of 6 Crores and Grade-1 government job.
- The Punjab Chief minister Amarinder Singh announced a reward of 2 Crores.

- The Chief Minister of Manipur, Biren Singh took to twitter and announce 1 crore cash prize to Neeraj Chopra.
On this historic day where India bagged an Olympic Gold medal in an athletic event after 100 years, the Manipur State Cabinet has decided to honour the Javelin throw Gold medalist @Neeraj_chopra1 by extending a reward of Rs 1 Crore.

What Neeraj Chopra said after winning gold medal?
After winning gold, Chopra said: “Most important thing for me this year was to participate in international competitions…The 2-3 international competitions where I played helped me a lot. So I didn’t feel any pressure in Olympics and I was able to focus on my performance”.

He also dedicated the gold medal to Milkha Singh, who died due to covid this year had finished fourth in the 1960 Rome Olympics. He added, “Milkha Singh wanted to hear the national anthem in a stadium. He is no longer with us but his dream has been fulfilled.”
