Born in a middle-class family, Hanuma Vihari lost his father at a young age. It was his mother who raised him. He loved cricket from his childhood and possessed immense talent from a young age. He was the part of 2012 ICC U-19 World Cup winning Indian team. Vihari enjoyed tremendous success in the domestic circuit. Playing for Hyderabad, his staggering average of 59 in 2018 was a record at that time in first-class cricket. He was the highest run-scorer in 2017-18 Ranji Trophy which earned him an India cap.

Vihari went on to make his Test debut against England at The Oval. Despite most of the batters struggling in difficult conditions, Vihari scored a compact half-century. With a solid technique and excellent temperament, Vihari impressed the selectors and became a regular in India’s Test squads. He scored his maiden Test century against West Indies in Kingston. Vihari also played a crucial role in the Sydney Test played during 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar series. Despite not been able to stand properly due to hamstring injury, Vihari stood the crease with great determination and helped India sneak out a precious draw.
