ICC T20 World Cup to move out of India? Check Details

T20 World Cup Venue: The ICC T20 World Cup is set to be moved away from India as a result of the pandemic. The UAE and Oman are two alternatives that are being seriously considered. The BCCI has internally intimated the ICC to move ahead with the planning and preparations.

The United Arab Emirates are already hosting the second half of the PSL as well as the IPL, and now is in contention of being the venue for the T20 World Cup. However, UAE’s neighboring nation Oman is also now an option. Apart from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, Muscat could be used as the fourth venue for the mega event.

“Yes, the BCCI, during the ICC board meeting, has formally asked for a four week window to take a final call but, internally, they have said that they would like to keep the hosting rights and wouldn’t mind the tournament being held in UAE and Oman,” said the official.

The official also spoke about considering Oman as the ideal venue for the first week of the T20 World Cup, since the IPL is likely to be concluded by mid October.

“If the IPL finishes by October 10^th, then the UAE leg of the World T20 can start off in November which would give three weeks time to the pitches to be spruced up for the global event. In the meantime, the first week can be held in Oman.”

“If you think about it practically, India is now reporting around 120000 plus cases which is close to one third of what was being reported at the end of April and start of this month.

“But sitting on June 28, if you say “yes” to holding the World T20 in India, how can you predict the health situation in October if there is a third wave”

IPL Start Date

As of now the priority for the BCCI is to conduct the IPL Second Half in the UAE from September 18 to October 10. But there is a possibility that the tournament could be extended to October 18, in order to reduce the doubleheaders and work load off the players.
