Australian cricketers join hands to raise funds for India’s fight against Covid-19

Australian Cricketer Covid Donation: With India reporting nearly 3.5-4 lakh coronavirus cases daily, the country is witnessing an unwanted massacre by the crippling second wave of coronavirus. In the haste of ensuring incessant support to the countrymen, many entities besides the government- other nations, industrialists, reputed sports persons and individuals have left no stone unturned in making their little contributions to help fight the situation in India.

The disastrous pandemic even penetrated the player franchisee bio-bubbles of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 leading to its indefinite suspension. As the tough times rolled, not just IPL franchisees but also overseas cricket boards and players came forward with their contributions to help India during the crisis.

UNICEF Australia extends help to Indian Families

UNICEF Australia posted a video on their official Twitter handle captioning- “Australia’s cricketers are teaming up to share a powerful message we all need to hear.”

In the same, reputed Australian players- Pat Cummins, Brett Lee, Ellyse Perry, Allan Border, Meg Lanning, Rachael Haynes among the few other cricketers were seen in the initiative that aimed to help India in these unprecedented times.

Cricket Australia pledged to donate 50,000 AUD

As the grave situation dawned upon India, Cricket Australia was among the first to offer extended help. Earlier this month, the Australian Board assured a contribution of 50,000 AUD towards India. In fact, the board opened the floor of contributions to the Australian Cricketers, Association and UNICEF Australia who are now pouring their heart out for the same.

IPL playing Australian players quarantine in Maldives

After the abrupt call off of the IPL 2021 on May 4, overseas players had a big task returning to their countries as most nations had banned all flights and citizens from India due to the grave covid situation in the Indian subcontinent.

With Australia imposing a similar ban on the outgoing Indian flights, IPL bound Australian cricketers, officials, and coaches are currently serving their mandatory quarantine in the Maldives before flying to Australia. The ban is likely to be lifted on May 15 post which they are hoping to be back in the country.
