Cummins doubtful for Australia-Pakistan first Test series

Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins is unlikely to play in the Australia-Pakistan first Test series since their scandal-troubled tour of South Africa.

There is a list of players injured in the Australian squad. While Cummins and Josh Hazlewood suffer from back injury, Mitchell Starc suffers from leg injury.

All of these bowlers have arrived in Brisbane for a week of testing at Cricket Australia’s elite training facility.

Since the 3-1 series loss to South Africa, Australia has not played any other international match.

Starc resumed bowling last month and, excluding any setbacks, will be bowling in the UAE.

Cummins, clearly understood to be a clear third in the bowlers’ race in order to prove their fitness. Hazlewood, most probably may have to wait until the Australian summer to resume their international careers.

AUS-PAK TEST SERIES NOT TO START UNTIL OCTOBER

Mickey Arthur is set to coach the Australian team against Pakistan for two-Test series. The series isn’t expected to start until October. The dates of the tour are yet to be confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board. It is also expected to feature three T20 matches.

If the pace man is not given enough green light this week, then the bowlers will not be fully fit for the home summer. The ODI starts against South Africa on November 4.

Speaking recently, Cummins supported medical staff to take a conservative approach but also stressed on the fact that if in any case, he has to miss the Pakistan series, it would not at all be due to ‘rest’.

TEST SQUAD NOT CONFIRMED FOR NOW

The Australia A series, which is slated to kick start with a one-dayer late next week, might provide Australian team with some selection choices.

The Australia A squad, including current Test opener Matthew Renshaw, will train this week in Brisbane before travelling to India which will go on for a month.
