The crisis of Cricket South Africa seem to be unending. In fact things are only getting worse as the South Africa cricket team is at the cusp of getting banned from international cricket. The recent updates in the country and the latest announcement by South Africa’s sports minister Nathi Mthethwa have created an uproar among cricket fans. And it seems that South Africa might get banned from international cricket which puts questions on their participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup. But what exactly happened and what is the issue? We help you get the complete picture here.

The ongoing crisis in South Africa cricket administration

Cricket South Africa, the body running cricket in South Africa is having certain issues since the recent times. And with time, things have only gone wayward. The cricket body and the country’s government have had clashes. Both bodies are adamant on their respective stance and aren’t willing to step back.

Nathi Mthethwa’s latest announcement

According to sources, due to Cricket South Africa’s policy of not obliging to the country’s government, South Africa’s sports minister N Mthetwa is going to post an order that will derecognize the Cricket South Africa (CSA) board. This move will end up in CSA losing its official powers to handle the cricketing affairs and won’t be representing the national team.

The consequences of this move aren’t limited to administration only. This could end up in South Africa not participating in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 as there won’t be any official board to represent South African national team.

What is the future of South African cricket?

After derecognizing the Cricket South Africa (CSA) board, the government will appoint a new board in place of the CSA. But it the new board needs to be recognized by the ICC and the Sports Ministry of South Africa. Until this happens, the South African team will cease all the upcoming schedules that include the T20 World Cup 2021.

South Africa not playing the ICC T20I World Cup is a far-fetched consequence of this tussle between CSA and South Africa government. Hopefully, the matter will be solved before as international cricket requires South Africa to feature in the World Cup. South African players have a huge fan following and their absence will not be a good advertisement for the tournament. So, expect ICC to pull some strings and get things back on track.
