The dark clouds are looming ahead of the IPL 2021 which is scheduled to start on April 9. The first match will be played in Chennai with Mumbai Indians facing Royal Challengers Bangalore. There has been a tremendous surge in the covid cases in the state of Maharashtra, which accounts for the most cases day-wise. Recently, it was reported that the 10 ground staff along with 6 event managers were found to be positive. Due to this reason, the IPL organizers may be a look-out for a venue that has less risk and the tournament can be organized safely.

CAP offers to host IPL 2021
The Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) has offered to host the Indian Premier League 2021 amid the covid crisis in Mumbai. Before this, the Hyderabad Cricket Association also had approached to host the tournament. The former CAP secretary P Damodaran has written a letter to Saurav Ganguly and Jay Shah regarding hosting the tournament.
“Please consider Pondicherry also as one of the alternate venues for the IPL in case of an emergency. We have great facilities, the wickets are ready too. We have nice hotels and a good airport.” P Damodaran said to TOI.
“If the IPL teams stay on the Mahabalipuram Beach resorts, it will be one-hour distance each between that place and the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, CAP Stadium in Pondicherry, and the Chennai airport,” Damodaran added.
