SHARMA FINED 15 PERCENT OF HIS MATCH FEE

Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma who is currently playing in the ongoing Eng-Ind was today fined 15 per cent of his match fee. The reason behind the same is, after dismissing England batsman Dawid Malan on Day 3 of the first test, he was having a bubbly celebration.

“Ishant Sharma has been fined 15 per cent of his match and has also received one loss of credit after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during the third day’s play,” explained the ICC in a statement.

PACER VIOLATED ARTICLE 2.1.17

The tall pacer was found to have violated Article 2.1.7 of the code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which undervalue or which could infuriate, a belligerent, reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match”.

“This incident took place during the first session’s play yesterday when Sharma was seen celebrating Malan’s dismissal very close to him. This was an act which in the view of the match officials had the perspective to provoke a zealous reaction from the departing batsman. However, there was no need for a formal hearing,” the statement added.

BOWLER CONFESSED TO THE OFFENCE
The sanction was initiated by Jeff Crowe of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. Once the day’s play ended, Sharma self-confessed, to the offence

The charge was equalised by on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Marais Erasmus, as well as fourth umpire Tim Robinson.

Level 1 violation carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum punishment of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
