Rishabh Pant's boundary denied by the umpire in controversial manner

Rishabh Pant and the umpire: After the dismissal of Virat Kohli, the onus was on Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul to guide India to a fighting total in the first innings. The pressure was maintained by the two batsman and Pant in particular as kept finding the odd boundary. However, one moment which stood out was once Rishabh Pant tried executing his customary reverse sweep, on fast bowler Tom Curran.

Curran, quite cleverly bowled at the block hole, but Rishabh Pant somehow managed to get piece of the bat, as the ball then rushed towards the fence. Not being aware of the fact, Tom Curran made a big appeal for an LBW. The umpire Virender Sharma raised his finger as he thought that Pant was plumb in front of the wickets.

The 23-year-old opted for DRS, and as per the replay for the TV umpire, the ball clearly hit the bat and didn’t even connect with the pads at any moment. The decision was over-ruled and with that funnily enough, Pant was denied four extra runs. The ball was declared ‘dead’ after Virender Sharma addressed it as ‘out’.

We thought that it might be the end of it, but an over later the southpaw was once again incorrectly given out for a caught behind. The ball hit Pant’s shoulder and looped up for a comfortable take for Jos Buttler.

Another review, another decision overturned.

In spite of a few dodgy decisions, the young wicket keeper batsman powered his way along with Rahul with 113 run partnership. Rishabh Pant scored a trailblazing knock of 77 from 40 deliveries, consisting of three boundaries and seven sixes.
