The Indian Premier League 2021 will start on 9 April. All the cricket boards have allowed their players to be part of the IPL this year as the World Cup is scheduled to be played in India later in the year.
IPL will be a good hunting ground for the overseas players to get accustomed to the subcontinent pitches. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions, and look favourites this year as well. There have been confirmed reports about BCCI adding two new IPL teams in May. The IPL last had 10 teams in IPL 2011, where Kochi Tuskers and Pune Warriors played.

What it means for IPL going ahead?
Earlier the report stated that the BCCI is looking to add just one team for next year which will make a total of 9 teams in IPL 2022. With 8 tams, the tournament gets stretched to around 1.5-2 months. With 2 new teams from 2021, tournament’s time frame is set to be increased.
It will also be a matter of concern if the overseas players will be available for the extended period. The IPL commitee will have to change the pattern of league matches to cut-short the tournament that will make sure that the teams have top-players and the tournament will be interesting.
