Kohli’s bold statement at Edgbaston
One country which did not witness the class, the exuberance and the determination of Virat Kohli was England. The 2014 tour for Virat was one of the greatest nightmares of his glorious career, but this time around, he came to England to avenge stuff which was not achieved by him in the last tour.
The pundits of the game, the critics and Virat’s fans all witnessed the masterclass of him when he walked into the lush fields of Birmingham and scored his 22nd ton, a ton which he will remember for years because it is his first on the English soil. It conducted him two tours to score a century on the English turf, but his efforts on the field mesmerised the crowd and especially the fan base he has around the world.
He never looked out of gas and was gaining strength run by run, not only a hundred, his task was much more than the three-figure mark as he was the only man left in the middle to take India somewhere close to England’s first innings total. After his scintillating knock, Virat admitted it was a test of his mental and physical strength.

With English bowlers relishing on a surface which was offering some decent swing throughout the first two sessions, Indian batsmen were struggling to get going which led to a slump of wickets, especially in the middle overs.
Virat was holding one end and watching his partners bidding adieu from the other, but he had to keep his nerve which he did magnificently well by batting selflessly and holding the tail of Indian batting within. He completed his century with a square cut boundary off Ben Stokes with India trailing by 66 runs, that is when he stitched a magnificent 57 runs stand with the last man in Umesh Yadav.
His innings was full of sheer determination and grit and one he would rate very high in his set of centuries.
