IND vs ENG

After a stunning series win Down Under, Team India has witnessed some serious back-to-back toiling days in the field in the ongoing first Test match against England in Chennai. The visiting England team has already piled up a mammoth total of 555 runs for the loss of 8 wickets at stumps on Day 2 with skipper Joe Root leading from the front with a magnificent knock of 218 runs and he was well supported by the duo of Dominic Sibley and Ben Stokes contributing with crucial fifties each. The pitch offered absolutely no respite to the Indian bowlers as the English batters looked to pile on the misery.

Ben Stokes offers an epic reaction after Rohit Sharma puts down a dolly

Just before stumps on Day 2 of the India vs England 1st Test, India’s opener and senior player Rohit Sharma dropped a very easy chance off Washington Sundar which offered an opportunity to Dominic Bess. Rohit was fielding at the mid-wicket position at that time and the ball came straight to him, but the right-hander made a complete mess of a straightforward chance. England all-rounder Ben Stokes who played a breathtaking knock of 82 runs earlier in the day, also looked quite shocked seated in the dressing room after Rohit missed that easy catch.

If Rohit had taken that catch, there was a big possibility of England getting bowled out on Day 2. Indian team’s catching was seriously not upto the mark in the recent Australia tour as well as we saw a lot of chances being put down. It seems that poor catching has been following India on their way back home as well.

Can the Indian batsmen counter the England bowlers?

India’s first job on Day 3 will be to take the remaining two England wickets as soon as possible and then would want their batsmen to put up a strong show on this flat Chennai track. With the likes of Rohit, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, India surely has a strong top-order on offer who can counter the English bowlers. On the other hand, the third day of the Test match will also be very crucial for the visiting bowlers as James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Dom Bess and Jack Leach will also have to bowl really well on this wicket to make things difficult for India.
