The incident took place in the tenth over of the first session. Rishabh Pant was caught giving some advice to R Ashwin on how to create some trouble for England opener Rory Burns.

The first test at Chepauk marks the return of cricket to India after almost 12 months halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic. England has started their long tour with the longest format of the game. Earlier in the day, England captain Joe Root won the toss and straightway chose to bat first on what looked like a good batting wicket.

England openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley made Indian bowlers work hard for the first breakthrough crossing 50 runs partnership for the opening wicket. However, Indian bowlers’ late resurgence helped in ending the first session poised as England end the session with 67 runs on the board for the loss of just 2 wickets.
