SIX or OUT? Watch Max Bryant’s sensational fielding effort in Big Bash League

Time and again, the Big Bash League of Australia has proved that its standard of cricket is right up there with the top T20 leagues of the world. One of the major highlights of the BBL 2020-21 has been the fielding skills of the domestic Australian cricketers. On Thursday, we saw another spectacular fielding effort by the Brisbane Heat batsman Max Bryant. Even though the effort was not fruitful for his side, it surely was something which got the fans talking.

Max Bryant’s day of brilliance in the outfield

The incident took place in the league stage match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars. In a rain-reduced match at the Carrara Oval in the Gold Coast, Stars were on the brink of defeat when Nick Larkin launched a ball off Mark Steketee in the sky. As the ball was going for a six, Bryant standing on the fence starting running towards it. He caught the ball just in time inside the boundary but his momentum was taking him over the fence.

At this moment, the young opening batsman was smart enough to throw the ball up to the nearby fielder, who caught the ball. It was a tremendous effort. However, as the replays were shown, it was quite clear that the Heat player had stepped outside the boundary rope before he threw the ball to his teammate. The third umpire ruled it not out and it was called a six. Here’s a clip of the incident:

But, that didn’t stop Bryant. The right-handed batter pulled another fielding brilliance in the next over, when he literally grabbed a ball from the air and threw it back in the playing field to prevent a six.

Heat move ahead of Stars in the BBL points table after a tense battle

The heat’ eventually ended up winning the match by 18 runs via the DLS method. The Chris Lynn-led side scored 115 in their allotted 10 overs, while Stars were set a total of 129, as per the DLS rules. Some quality bowling by Steketee and superb ground fielding ensured that Brisbane won their fourth match of the season. It also ensured them a place higher than Melbourne Stars, who are now placed at the sixth position.
