IND vs AUS Test Stats: In modern day cricket, India and Australia do come together for a rivalry which is as anticipated as Ashes arguably. Right from the dominant years for Australian cricket in 2000s, India have emerged as their premier competitor. Who can forget India’s Kolkata triumph in 2001 when Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman put together a resistance for the ages to halt Australia’s record 16 consecutive test wins. But Australia came soaring back in the subsequent tour in 2004 when Adam Gilchrist and his men conquered the ‘final frontier’ in some style.
As the years gone by, India began to up their game down under as well to pose a challenge in toughest of conditions in world cricket. During the 2003-04 tour to Australia, India came pretty close to register their first ever series victory on Australia soil, only to play Steve Waugh an innings of highest order at Sydney in his last ever test. The series ended at 1-1 but India’s victory at Adelaide is still regarded as one of their best. Eventually, India succeeded in marking their names in the history books when they beat Australia 2-1 on 2018-19 tour.

In 2018-19 when India landed on Australian shores, expectations were quite high as Australia were struggling to fill the holes in their batting lineup which were left due to bans on Steve Smith and David Warner. Probably it was first time when visitors were favourites going into the series. In the first match at Adelaide, Cheteshwar Pujara delivered a high-class hundred to take India out of the trouble and helped them post a competitive first innings total. Based on that, India bowlers suffocated the Australian lineup to take India 1-0 up in the series.
Australia made a strong comeback in the series when they beat India convincingly in the inaugural test match at Perth Stadium. Nathan Lyon picked up 8 from the match and pegged India back significantly with crucial strikes. So as it stood, teams reached MCG with series leveled at 1-1 for the historic Boxing Day test. Batting first after winning the toss, Cheteshwar Pujara again came to party with a magnificent hundred. The tourists posted a daunting 443 on the board before Jasprit Bumrah took center-stage with a spell of 6-33. After that all left was formalities which India completed briefly afterwards. In the last match at Sydney, rain played major spoilsport after India were on the driver seat. This time Rishabh Pant also joined Cheteshwar Pujara to take India to a formidable 622 in the first innings. Australia were forced to follow-on after they were bundled out for just 300 in their first innings. But rain and bad light meant that there was no play possible on fourth and fifth days to cap the series stranded on 2-1 in India’s favour.
