WATCH: Jofra Archer clean bowls Chris Gayle on 99, Universe Boss throws bat in frustration

The Universe Boss was on show tonight and guess what? The Gayle Storm has hit Abu Dhabi in its most dangerous form. The 41-year-old veteran plundered each and every RR bowler out of the park as he made a well-fought 99 in this must-win game. But he was dismissed in the last over by Jofra Archer just one run short of a magnificent century. And to everyone’s surprise, the ever-smiling and joyful Chris Gayle lost his cool on getting out for 99 and threw his bat away in frustration.

Gayle Storm hits Abu Dhabi

Playing the must-win game against the Rajasthan Royals, the Kings XI batsmen Chris Gayle was at his vintage best. After coming into bat early on in the innings due to Mandeep’s early dismissal, he whacked each and every RR bowler out of the park. He batted through the entire innings and scored a mammoth 99 runs from just 63 balls. His exploits included 8 massive sixes and 4 boundaries. With this knock, he also became the first batsmen on the planet to hit 1000 sixes in T20 cricket- a feat which is most unlikely to be surpassed in the near future. Kieron Pollard who stands second on the list has hit 690 sixes and is way behind the Universe Boss.

Archer gets the better of Gayle in the last over

The Universe Boss looked all set to reach another century. But some excellent bowling from RR lead pacer Jofra Archer in the last over saw him getting bowled for 99. Bowling the third ball of the final over, Gayle smashed Archer for a massive six to stretch his score to 99. Archer being smart, followed it up with a clean Yorker. Gayle went all out for the big shot and swung the bat in great anticipation. The ball was angled in and it hit Gayle’s pads and went onto hit the off stump. Gayle swinged the bat in his disappointment of not reaching the milestone. In the swing, he lost the grip of the bat and the bat went flying to the short mid-wicket region.

After that Archer went straight to the Universe Boss and congratulated him for this gem of a knock, showing a great sense of sportsmanship. Gayle’s timely exploits ensured that KXIP reaches a fairly competitive target of 185 in the span of 20 overs.
