Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri excited to compete with top managers in Premier League

Premier League contenders Chelsea had recently appointed a new manager in Maurizio Sarri after sacking Antonio Conte. The Italian who will be in charge of the Stamford Bridge club is charged up to go against some of the best managers in the game.

He said, “Chelsea is one of the most important clubs in the most important championship in Europe. In the Premier League, there are all the most important coaches in Europe, maybe in the world. It will be for me very exciting to play against Guardiola, Pochettino, Mourinho, Klopp and the others.”

Sarri who is a former Napoli manager and took that team to a second-place finish in 2017/18 season in Serie A has been sought after for a while.

Had it not been down to some luck and cruel inconsistency in the end, Napoli would’ve won the league and claim the Serie A title from Juventus.

However, at Chelsea, he will be replacing a manager who won the Premier League title in 2016/17 season. In fact, Conte guided The Blues to an FA Cup trophy in the last season as well.

But, the London club looked a shadow of its former self and laboured to a fourth-place finish in 2017/18. This fall from grace hurt the club’s ambition and became a venomous incident for Antonio Conte. His relations with the club and the management only soured as the campaign dragged on, and it was inevitable that a divorce will take place.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is known to be a man who doesn’t like complacency and takes immediate actions, and the onus will be on Sarri to hit the ground running at his new job.

The 59-year-old will be in charge of his first Chelsea game on July 23 against Perth Glory and will become the ninth full-time manager for the club after being bought by the Russian Billionaire.
