Hampshire captain James Vince has been called into England’s squad for the final One Day International against India at Headingly on Tuesday.
The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed Vince’s call up and said that Vince’s call-up would allow Dawid Malan for playing for the Lions.
England’s A side will be playing against India A in their four-day match in Worcester starting on Monday.
Moreover, England have also released Sam Curran for facing India A.
Sam Curran made his debut against Pakistan at Headingley and further opportunity might arise when Ben Stokes is available because of his trial in Bristol which is slated to commence a day after the first Test is due to finish.
Malan is likely to be preferred as a middle-order batsman although he couldn’t perform really well in the two Tests against Pakistan.
Malan has only played five matches for Middlesex and his scores of last four innings across various formats have been 0,0, 2 and 0 including a pair in the pink-ball Championship match against Kent.
Dawid Malan was called in the England squad to replace injured Alex Hales.
After the England A game, he would be playing a Championship fixture against Warwickshire before the Test series against India begins on August 1.
Just like Malan, Vince would not be featuring in the playing XI unless there is an injury to one of England’s one of the top order batsmen.
He has earned an England call-up backing on his impressive Royal London Cup campaign where he scored 527 runs and captained Hampshire to the title.
Vince who lost his Test spot at the start of the season played the last of his five ODIs back in 2016 when Bangladesh when Hales and Eoin Morgan both opted out of the Bangladesh series.
It is possible that there is one batting berth up for grabs in England’s World Cup squad next year with Billings, Vince and Malan trying to make a cut.
