Pat-Cummins

When Pat Cummins was taken to the cleaners in KKR’s first match of IPL 2020, many on the internet started trolling him for his below-par performance and for the hefty price tag that he possesses. Guess what? Cummins have shut them all with a perfect reply. In KKR’s second match of the tournament, he castled the SRH opener, Jonny Bairstow, with an outstanding delivery. Never write off champions!

Pat Cummins castles Jonny Bairstow

Having lost their opening fixtures, SRH and KKR locked horns with each other in Abu Dhabi for their second match of the tournament. On winning the toss SRH captain David Warner decided to bat first and started their innings quite comfortably with Bairstow pairing him up at the other end. KKR bowlers who were all over the place in the last match showed great character right from the start in this match and it was their pace bowling leader Pat Cummins who provided them the early breakthrough. In the last ball of the fourth over, he castled Bairstow with a good length delivery.

Right throughout the over, he followed the traditional approach of bowling in the good areas thereby attacking the stumps. Looking to clear the gap, Bairstow exposed his three stumps and fell prey to a good ball from Cummins. He followed it up with other two good overs and ended up with an outstanding figures of 1-19 in four overs.

Shubman Gill takes KKR to victory

After Bairstow’s wicket, both Warner and Manish Pandey build a small partnership. Pandey went on to make a half-century and he was supported by Wriddhiman Saha at the other end, whose 30 from 31 balls seemed to haunt SRH’s efforts to reach a par total. They closed their innings on 142-4. KKR who came into the chase, looked fairly comfortable. Even after losing Narine and captain Dinesh Karthik cheaply, young Shubman Gill kept his nerves and played sensible and well-calculated innings of 70 from 62 balls. The partnership he had with Eoin Morgan (42 of 29 balls) took KKR to the right side of the results.
