WATCH: What did Sunil Gavaskar say about Anushka Sharma; Actress slams cricket legend

Yesterday’s match between KXIP and RCB didn’t go well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. And the man who was at the receiving end of all criticisms was their captain Virat Kohli. He dropped two catches and had a day to forget with the bat. The number of trolls that he received right after the match was humungous. Now to add to that, a video is being circulated on the social media platforms where the former India player Sunil Gavaskar can be seen criticizing Virat’s wife Anushka Sharma for his dismal show in the field.

Gavaskar blames Anushka for Virat’s poor performance

Right after yesterday’s match, all the netizen’s and especially the fans of Indian skipper Virat Kohli started showering hate on Sunil Gavaskar. Wonder why? He allegedly criticized Virat’s wife and popular Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma for Kohli’s lack of form in the last two matches. He made that statement while he was doing Hindi commentary.

He said that Virat had faced only his wife’s bowling during the lockdown and that isn’t enough practice to get into the groove while preparing for a big tournament like IPL.

“Lockdown tha to sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki unhone, wo video dekhi hai, usse to kuch nahi hona hai,” he said. (It translates to – During the lockdown he practised only Anushka’s bowling, I had seen in a video. But that is not going to be enough).

This created serious waves on the internet, with fans of the RCB skipper even requesting the Star Sports team and the BCCI to remove Mr. Gavaskar from the commentary panel.

Not only Anushka but all the wives of cricketers should be kept out of cricket trolls/banters and cricket commentary. They all have lives of their own and are not responsible for how their respective spouses perform on field . Their privacy should be respected.

Anushka Sharma gives a fitting reply to Gavaskar

Anushka Sharma is not someone who would sit idle and take all those criticism showered on her. And rightly so, as expected she gave a fitting reply to Gavaskar through her Instagram stories.

“That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you think you should have equal amount of respect for me and us?” posted Anushka on her IG story.

This is not the first time that she had been dragged on to cricketing matters. Every time Virat fails, the media blames it on her. She had expressed her dissatisfaction in such statements and had requested the media to take her name out of cricketing matters.

Virat is yet to respond to Gavaskar’s statement. By the kind of person that he is, a fitting reply with the bat awaits Gavaskar in the next match.
