Smith-Samson

The romance between the Sharjah cricket stadium and brutal hitting continues yet again. And this time it was Sanju Samson, who was in the driving seat. Put into bat by CSK, the Rajasthan Royals batsmen smashed each and every CSK bowler out of the park. The most brutal of them came from Sanju Samson and Steve Smith who together milked 28 runs off Piyush Chawla’s over, courtesy of four massive monstrous sixes.

Sanju Samson sets Sharjah on fire, re-writes record books

After three 150-160 kind of games in the other two venues, the IPL shifted its base to the iconic Sharjah cricket stadium. And guess what, it saw the first 200+ score in IPL 2020. Put in to bat first by CSK, Rajasthan lost one early wicket in the form of young Yashasvi Jaiswal. That didn’t stop Smith and Samson, who came after to carry on with their onslaught. Sanju was at his absolute best today. He scored a mammoth 74 runs of 32 balls which included 9 sixes and a boundary.

His tally of 9 sixes is third only to Murali Vijay’s 11 and his own 10 in the list of most sixes by an Indian in a single IPL match. He made his intentions clear right from the word go. The innings was filled with crisp yet brutal shots. As it happened it was Sanju’s highest score against CSK and it also happens to be the fastest 50 by any batsmen against CSK.

His onslaught along with a calculated innings from captain Smith ensured that RR reached an above par score of 216 with ease. Not to mention the mad hitting from Jofra Archer in the last over from Lungi Ngidi.

Sanju Samson and Steve Smith hits Chawla for fun

The most interesting over of the match came in the 7th over when CSK leggie Piyush Chawla decided to feed Sanju and Smith with over-pitched gifts. The first ball of this over was in the slot for Samson and he launched it straight down the ground for a massive six. He followed it up with another massive six over extra cover, which again was a poor delivery from Chawla, who pitched it wide of off-stump. He hit it with the turn and sent the ball to the car park outside the ground. Luck didn’t favour Chawla even for the third time as Samson hit his third six of that over in the fifth ball. It came of a flighted fuller length delivery, which he sent it over the roof with a clean swing. Samson sensibly rotated the strike in the last ball which in fact was a no-ball and it was up for Smith to carry on with the rest of the carnage. Smith too showed no mercy on Chawla, as he smacked him over extra cover for a six in the free hit.
