England books a ticket to the quarter finals, football may be coming home finally?

The final game of the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup 2018, we saw the clash of England vs Colombia. The final scoreline was 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Winner of this game would be taking on Sweden, which was if the odds were looked at, a favourable route to the Semi-Final.

England started the game strongly like they always have in this tournament. Their captain Harry Kane was already the top goal scorer with five goals. The team was performing at the best they have in the recent memory.

Even though the European side had the bulk of the chances against Colombia in the first-half, they were unable to penetrate the defence. More problems followed for England when their opponents started to get back in the. The sides were dead-even when the half-time whistle blew, with all to play for.

The South American side was without their talisman James Rodriguez. He missed due to an injury and his absence was felt.

The European side started the second half strongly as well, and this time it had a positive result. Kane was tackled wrongly in the Colombian box and the referee pointed straight to the spot. The captain stepped up to take it and made it six goals in four games. A nightmare for Colombia.

Los Cafeteros tried all their might but were falling short by the narrowest of the margins. It seemed that the fate and the referee weren’t on their side, as nothing was going their way. Jose Peckerman was livid with some of the decisions and decided it’s time to send his team to attack with everything they’ve got.
