Indian cricket had several successful captains over the years but Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni along with Kapil Dev will always be remembered by the cricket fans for their unparalleled contribution to the Indian cricket
It is fair that the world cup winning captains in Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni are decorated as such but one can wonder the accolades that prince of Bengal receives without any world cup is something where Dada stands out. He inculcated the winning habit into the Indian team and helped India to emerge as world beaters under his captaincy.
MS Dhoni didn’t leave too many world beaters – Gautam Gambhir
The two time world cup winning member in Gautam Gambhir who is known for his witty comments and opinions about the game participated in a poll conducted by ESPNcricinfo regarding best captain of Indian cricket. Here’s what he said about MS Dhoni,
When MS Dhoni finished (his captaincy stint), he hasn’t given enough quality players to Virat Kohli, apart from Virat Kohli himself and Rohit Sharma. Or Jasprit Bumrah now. There are not too many world beaters, or probably people who win you tournaments
Gambhir heaps praise on Sourav Ganguly
The 2 time IPL winning captain further added that Sourav Ganguly left a legacy behind him with the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan who were all instrumental in the 2011 world cup triumph for India under MS Dhoni.
A bunch of youngsters like Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni and many more veterans were groomed under Dada which is one thing that the Indian cricket will always be grateful to the BCCI president
“But look at what Sourav Ganguly gave to Indian cricket. Yuvraj Singh, man of the series in two World Cups [Yuvraj was only man of the series in the 2011 World Cup. Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag – these kinds of world beaters,” Gambhir added
