Gautam Gambhir names world’s best fielder

Cricket has over the years have moved from the conventional game between bat and ball. With the advent of T20 cricket and various franchise cricket tournaments around the world, the importance of fielding has found value more than ever in modern-day cricket. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir in his latest interview with the Star Sports cricket connected show gave his choice for the current world’s best fielder.

Gautam Gambhir picks the World’s best fielder

The Delhi born southpaw was asked to name the best fielder among the current generation on the Star Sports cricket connected show. He named the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as his choice without even a shadow of doubt. He added that even though Jadeja doesn’t field in the slips or gully which are considered to be the conventional position for the best fielders in the team, he is a notch ahead of the rest of his contemporaries in terms of his throwing ability. He further went onto praise his speed and pointed out that no one in the world cricket is better than him in clearing the outfield.

Gautam Gambhir impressed with Jadeja’s fielding ability

“I think, in world cricket, there is no better fielder than Jadeja, an overall fielder,” Gambhir said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports. “Maybe he doesn’t field at slip and gully, but no one is better than him in throwing. No one covers the outfield like him. Put him at point or cover, you can get him to field anywhere. No one has a safer pair of hands than him. Ravindra Jadeja probably is the best fielder in world cricket” added Gambhir.

So far in his career, Jadeja has taken 115 catches. His fielding abilities were praised enormously during the ICC World Cup last year, wherein he came into the side as a substitute fielder and changed the course of the matches just with his fielding abilities. In just two matches, he saved 41 runs – 24 inside the circle and 17 in the outfield, which is the most by anyone in the tournament.

Jonty Rhodes praise Jadeja

 Last month, Jonty Rhodes who is considered as the best ever fielder to have played the game praised Jadeja for his tremendous fielding skills. He pointed out Jaddu’s commitment and anticipation skill as the reasons for his success.

“Jaddu (Jadeja) has taken some fantastic catches. The key is he is very committed. He is very good at anticipating the ball also,” Rhodes had told Suresh Raina during an Instagram Live last month.
