Iran vs Morocco

In the opening match of Group B we have Morocco and Iran locking horns with each other in the Saint Petersburg Stadium, St. Petersburg. This is the first time these two teams have faced off in the World Cup and they also wanted this game to be a decider that which of these two teams is better. A plenty of mistakes made on both ends by both teams led to a poor overall performance.

Both the team’s attempt to reach the opponent’s penalty box is all the action that was offered to the spectators who came in masses to witness these two Middle Eastern teams showing off their magic. But all hope wasn’t lost when in the 95th minute; Morocco scored the only goal of the match but unfortunately in the back of their own net. With a total of 36 fouls committed by both the teams in this game, the torturous game came to an end with four players shown off yellow card.

The own goal from Aziz Bouhaddouz who came to the ground as a replacement of Ayoub El Kaabi in the 77th minute ensured that no game in FIFA World Cup so far ended goalless. Now that Iran has won this game they have already secured 3 points and now they would want to focus on the herculean task they have in hand that is to defeat either Portugal or Spain to make it through the qualifiers but given their current display of football, it is unlikely if they can actually beat any other nation in this World Cup.

Morocco had better players comparatively but in the end the fate of the game is decided with the number of goals scored by both teams and today’s score read Iran 1- 0 Morocco.

A plenty of things to work out for both these teams as the path they are on would not be that easy.

Final Score: Iran 1 – 0 Morocco
