Watch: AB de Villiers reveals South Africa comeback plans

During an interactive session on Star Sports’ “Cricket Connected”, superstar AB de Villiers discussed a variety of things, like his day-to-day schedule during the COVID-19 lockdown, things he is doing to keep himself busy. But the hottest topic surrounding him these days is his international future with South Africa and thank God, he brought that subject up.

“What I can share with you guys is that the desire is there from my side. The desire to get me involved with the Proteas has been shown by Cricket South Africa as well. With Mark Boucher as coach and Graeme Smith as director, they are keen to get me involved, which is very pleasing to hear. I hope everything works out and there are a few things that need to fall in place,” de Villiers said on Star Sports.

AB de Villiers said that the most important thing is fitness and he is leaving no stone unturned in keeping his body in shape. He revealed that it is important for him to feel that he has earned his place in the South African team and that he is with the team on merit.

“The most important thing to me is I have to be in tiptop form and I have to be better than the player next to me. If I deserve a spot in the side, it becomes easy for me to feel like I deserve to be in the side and I have earned my spot. I have not been in the Proteas side for a while and I think that it is important for myself and for other people as well to see if I am still good enough to play for them.”

The Royal Challengers Bangalore superstar is fan-favourite for his unique and innovative gameplay. He is renowned as the Mr. 360° due to his ability to use different stance on the pitch to hit the ball. He announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in 2018, breaking many hearts in the cricket world. But the latest development has given everyone a ray of hope that we may yet see de Villiers playing for his nation.

Boucher hinting at de Villiers’ international future

South Africa coach Mark Boucher also indicated before that he sees Villiers in his plans for the national team for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia and described him as “best man for the job”.

But the Coronavirus pandemic has cast a cloud over every major sporting event in the world, and Villiers admitted he is not sure when Cricket may return in the future.
