A few days back, a source close to BCCI revealed that the IPL 2020 might get a date somewhere in July, and all the matches will be played behind closed doors.

The news was more of a speculation as the official announcement is yet to be made. However, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has been very active on the buzz around the IPL and once again came up with something substantial regarding the tournament.

‘At the present moment, we can’t say anything’: Sourav Ganguly

There is a worldwide chaos courtesy COVID-19, the current situation is nowhere near to get under control. Emphasizing on what’s going on around, Sourav Ganguly said;

“We keep monitoring developments. At the present moment, we can’t say anything. And what is there to say anyway? Airports are shut, people are stuck at home, offices are locked down, nobody can go anywhere. And it seems this is how it’s going to be till the middle of May.

Where will you get players from, where do players travel. It’s just simple common sense that at the moment, nothing is in favor of any kind of sport anywhere in the world, forget IPL”.

Sourav Ganguly to give next IPL update on Monday

Many speculations have been made ever since IPL got a new date, but with the current situation the world is going through, there are no signs of IPL going ahead as per the proposed date i.e. April 15th.

The lockdown is also going to extend as per some close sources of the government of India, and if the rumors are to be believed, it may extend till April 30. If this happens, the BCCI boss has to rethink about the commencement of the tournament. Here’s what Sourav Ganguly had to say in the context;

 “I will be able to give an update on that on Monday after speaking to the other office-bearers (of BCCI). But practically speaking, when life has come to a standstill everywhere in the world, where does sport have a future in this”
