The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2020’s future remains uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The high profiled tournament was originally scheduled for March 29, but as a result of the global wide emergency, the BCCI officials decided to push it to April 15. However, the nature of the outbreak is far from over, which could yet again postpone the IPL to the latter half of 2020.
That being said, if the tournament does happen soon enough, quite a few teams will be rearing to have a go in the field given the quality and belief they now have. One of those teams has to be the Delhi Capitals. The Delhi based franchise are yet to lift an IPL title, but impressed one and all the previous season by making it to the knockouts through a fine display. The auction table for the upcoming edition has also strengthened their outfit as they have quite a few players who can make Delhi Capitals go the distance.
Here’s a look at some of the five players from the Delhi Capitals camp who can strike authority in the season that lies ahead.
- Shreyas Iyer
The last few months have been nothing less that resounding for Shreyas Iyer. The captain of the Delhi Capitals has been a regular member in the Indian national team and more often than not resolves the issue of finding the perfect fit to bat at number four. Shreyas has been a part of 18 ODI’s for Team India and has scored 748 runs with an average of 49.87. In T20Is, Iyer has produced 417 runs from 20 innings with a strike rate of 129.5. Being a long time servant of the Delhi based franchise, Shreyas Iyer has 1681 runs from 62 innings in the IPL and has a strike rate of 126.96 with 13 half centuries under his belt.
2) Rishabh Pant
The young wicket keeper batsman has been under the pump ever since his arrival in the national team. Comparison’s to former captain MS Dhoni has often added pressure on young Pant’s shoulder which may have resulted in quite a few poor performances with the bat in recent times. That being said, Rishabh Pant always makes it count when it comes to IPL and tends to grab the attention of selectors as well as the masses. Known for his wide range of shots and one of a kind aggressive mindset, Rishabh Pant has scored 1736 runs from 54 innings in the IPL with a healthy average of 36.17 and a strike rate of 162.7. Pant has also bagged seven half centuries and a hundred to his name.
3) Marcus Stoinis
One of the big buy’s for Delhi Capital’s is the Australian specialist all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis who was recruited for INR 4.80 Crore. Stoinis was the clear standout in the recently concluded Big Bash League and pummeled quite a few bowlers with his power hitting. Marcus Stoinis was the top scorer of the campaign with 705 runs from 17 Big Bash innings for the Melbourne Stars with an average of 54.23 and a strike rate of 136.63. Stoinis’ inclusion in the Delhi camp evidently adds further quality to the batting lineup. His ability to roll his fingers with the ball in hand could serve as an additional bowling option as well.
