The grand gala league is on its way to give some scintillating entertainment to the cricket fans all over the world. The year 2020 in itself is a 20-20 year as it has lots in store as far as T20 cricket fans are concerned.
For instance the fans are enjoying the ongoing women’s T20 world cup which is happening in Australia. The Indian Premiere league is waiting to give epic entertainment very soon, and then the marquee event in men’s WT20 is scheduled to take place in October later this year.
IPL Prediction
As the IPL is in touching distance, here’s predicting IPL 2020 standings.
1. Mumbai Indians
The 4 time IPL winning team is the one that comes to the mind whenever one hears the term “favorites”. The way they have structured their team over the years is something that every other franchise not only in IPL but all the club teams around the world would be envy of.
They have one of the best scouts and the fact that India’s best limited overs bowler in Jasprit Bumrah, the best all-rounder in Hardik Pandya who is also the best available all-rounder in the country have all come from the Mumbai Indians.
This time around, if anything, they have only strengthened their squad when compared to last time around. They have included Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Chris Lynn to their already massive arsenal. It is a no brainer that the Mumbai Indians start as the favorites once again at the start of the season.
2. Chennai Super Kings
There is always something special about the most consistent franchise in the history of club cricket. The fact that they don’t have a power-packed squad or the most reputed T20 hitters in their team but they somehow manage to outsmart their opponents who are even double strong on paper when compared to them is what that makes CSK one of the most admirable teams in IPL.
The former Indian captain MS Dhoni is the god-father of CSK. There is no denying the fact that CSK is completely controlled by the captain himself on and off the field. The management has given him complete freedom to structure the way he wants and the results is for everybody to see.
The anticipation is sky-high especially with MS Dhoni returning to the cricket field since India’s semi final exit in the world cup. The yellow army will surely look to place their hands on the cup this time around after having missed it by a whisker in the last edition.
3. Kings XI Punjab
Many would be surprised to see Kings XI punjab ranked 3rd in this list of favorites to lift the trophy but on a hindsight Kings XI have built up a strong team that is apt for any conditions and to beat any team.
They have the India’s best T20 player in KL Rahul who will be captaining the side for the first time in his career. He did a very matured job in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the 5th T20I against the Kiwis and guided the team home with his impressive bowling changes and tactics. If anything, with Anil Kumble as the coach the team is destined to succeed.
They had an impressive auction to start with where they grabbed the big-show Glenn Maxwell for big bucks, then stole Chris Jordan who is one of the best T20 death bowlers at present, they also have Ravi Bishnoi who looked like a future star in the making in the India’s U19 world team to go with Caribbean Nicholas Pooran. They surely have potential to go all the way in this edition of IPL.
4. Sun Risers Hyderabad
The best bowling side in the history of IPL cricket is one team that cannot be discounted when it comes to title contenders. They have made a tactical change in replacing their captain Kane Williamson with David Warner who already has a trophy under his belt.
They have one of the best if not the best T20 opening pair in Jonny Bairstow and David Warner in IPL. They have a gun bowling attack but it took a beating in the last edition of the IPL which they will be hoping that it comes good this time around.
The another aspect is that they have the world cup and IPL winning coach in Trevor Bayliss who is one of the shrewdest cricket minds going around. With David Warner back to his favorite designation, one can expect a terrific season from SRH.
5. Royal Challengers Bangalore
A side that has won many hearts than no other team in the IPL but the sad part is they doesn’t have a trophy under their belt. This could well be the season which could solve their trophy drought.
They have the smartest cricketing brain in Mike Hesson who was instrumental In shaping up the Kiwi side last decade. They have fixed their death bowling concern by roping in Chris Morris and Isuru Udana, they also have a more experienced Navdeep Saini this time around.
The batting order looks strong as ever and it all depends on Virat Kohli on how he marshals his troops this time around.
6. Kolkata Knight Riders
The KKR CEO, Venky Mysore when asked about picking Eoin Morgan in the auction said that, they won the trophy in 2012 with Eoin Morgan and they would be hoping to get the lucky charm back in the side to go all the way through this time around. That’s how desperate they are to win the trophy.
They won the trophy 2 times under the able leadership of Gautam Gambhir and since 2014, they haven’t even qualified for the finals at least once.
They have spent a whopping amount on Pat Cummins who is not so extraordinary T20 bowler by any means. Their bowling was their major concern last season and they will rely on Pat Cummins to spearhead the attack. The balance of their side is not so good and that is the very reason they have been ranked 6th in this list.
7. Delhi Capitals
The young and energetic team who have very few haters is one of the exciting teams in IPL. They have ruthless cricketers all the way through in their batting order. They had a resurgent season last time with young team and 2 veterans in Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting made the playoffs only to get eliminated in the qualifier 2 by CSK.
This time they had an average outing in the auction and didn’t exactly bagged the players they had in mind and in the end had to settle with their second choice players.
Their bowling revolved around Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada in the last season and with both these players injured and speculation revolving around the participation of them in this edition, Delhi Capitals could well have a very tough season this time around.
8. Rajasthan Royals
The winners of the inaugural edition of the IPL haven’t won any single trophy since then. As a matter of fact, they didn’t made the finals of the IPL ever since they won the trophy in 2008. They were either unlucky or poor in their approach in all the seasons so far.
Although they have a strong core in Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Sanju Samson, and the captain Steve Smith, they faced a big blow in Jofra Archer who was ruled out from the IPL due to his injury. Their bowling is probably not as strong as the other 7 teams in the IPL.
They didn’t had a sound auction either as they bagged David Miller, Oshane Thomas, Tom Curran, as their star attraction players. if they are to make the playoffs at least, they will have to play out their skins to stand a chance in-front of other 7 strong sides when compared to them.
Overall another strenuous edition of IPL awaits the cricket fans and all the teams will be waiting to present 2 months of cricket carnival to the world.
