India have always produced world class openers over the years. The opening slot is the most difficult position to play in a test match. It requires special Skillet, grit and mental toughness to become a successful openers.
There was a standard template for the openers in the bygone era as they should respect the bowlers and should allow the bowlers to complete their opening spell where seam and swing will be in full force with the new ball. All those templates have been shattered by some of the openers who played fearless cricket at the top and showed no respect whatsoever to the bowlers.
Mayank is not like Sehwag or Warner
India’s new gem of a opener Mayank Agarwal has been praised by the former world cup winning member Gautam Gambhir. The southpaw has said that Mayank is a player who shows respect to the bowlers and will not go hard at the bowlers from ball 1 unlike the devastating openers like Virender Sehwag or David Warner.
Here’s what the former 2 time IPL winning captain had to say about Mayank Agarwal
I have a lot of faith in Mayank Agarwal. He may not be the most gifted going around but he is certainly the most organised. He will not treat bowlers with disdain like Virender Sehwag or a David Warner did but has clarity of mind of an opening batsman
Dream run for Mayank Agarwal
The dashing and dynamic Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal has made giant strides in his international career at such a short span of time. There is no denying the fact that he was seen as the next potential white-ball opener for India as he was a naturally aggressive and an attacking batsman but him turning into a completely different beast in test cricket is the least expected
Least Innings taken to score 2 Test 200s
Vinod Kambli – 5
Mayank Agarwal – 12*
Don Bradman – 13
STATS from India’s 2019 home Test season:

He has scored tons of runs in the domestic circuit for his state team Karnataka and has carried his form into the top level cricket. He has made each and every opportunity that came along his way to count. He will look to prove himself in the ongoing test series against the Kiwis to make a statement that he is not a home track bully.
