It was yet another super over which came in the way of New Zealand as Team India sealed their first-ever T20I series on Kiwi soil. The game looked all but over when Mohammad Shami was smashed for a six on the second ball of the 19th over by Ross Taylor. The Kiwis needed just two runs off four balls which chasing 180.
Shami to the rescue
But that’s when Shami bounced back and did the unthinkable. Shami got the big wicket of Williamson on 95 which brought an end to his heroic knock.
It was soon followed by two dot balls to Tim Siefert and a single, as New Zealand then required one of one. With Ross Taylor on strike, most would have thought that the hosts are going to walk away with a win. However, Shami‘s yorker-length delivery was too hot to handle for Ross Taylor as he chopped it on to his own stumps and the match was tied. The result had to be decided through a super over.

With New Zealand batting first in the super over, Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson added further pressure on Jasprith Bumrah as he was taken apart for 17 runs which just indicated that it wasn’t his day.
Rohit Sharma brings it home
With a big total in front of India, the onus was now on Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul to chase down the target against Tim Southee. The first bowl was guided to the leg side region by Sharma as he ran for two. The second ball went for a single. KL Rahul struck the third ball four a four which was followed by another single.
With 10 required off two, Rohit Sharma had no other option but to go for the big shots. But the pressure of the super over got to the nerves of Southee which led to two length deliveries and two sixes from Rohit Sharma’s bat which bagged India a dramatic series win.

Rohit Sharma was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match award for his innings of 65 from 40 deliveries, followed by his heroics in the super over.
Lone Warrior Williamson
Though New Zealand had to suffer yet another gut-wrenching defeat, the Kiwi skipper, Kane Williamson was given substantial praise for his gritty knock in the middle which nearly won his side the game. Indian captain, Virat Kohli also felt that Williamson was let down by his team and that they should have won it for him towards the end.
No one can imagine the pain behind this smile. Finest gentleman!
No whining, no complaining, no finger-pointing from Kane Williamson after their defeatTake a bow, KANE WILLIAMSON!? #NZvIND pic.twitter.com/j2Nvdxw4kT

Kane Williamson today: 106 runs in 52 balls. His team might've lost in Super Over but he played one of the finest T20i knock, so great to see this man developing himself in T20Is. Just sheer class from Williamson today! India secures a series win here, up with 3-0. pic.twitter.com/bOdvVLRnBE
