India and New Zealand are locking horns at the Eden Park in Auckland in the first T20I. Virat Kohli won the toss and without any hesitation opted to field first.
However, he surprised one and all with his decision of going with Shardul Thakur instead of going with the in-form Navdeep Saini. Rishabh Pant’s exclusion from the team was obvious as Kohli mentioned the same in the press conference a day before the game, but going with Shardul Thakur instead of Navdeep Saini raised eyebrows of many cricket fans.
Shardul Thakur gave away 30 runs from his first 2 overs
Shardul shared the new ball alongside Jasprit Bumrah who bowled a really tight first over giving away 7 runs only. Thakur started his spell against Colin Munro and his first ball went for a single towards the mid-wicket.
On strike now it was the right-hander Martin Guptill and he got an inswinger which he easily tickled down the fine-leg for a four. The next three balls went for a single, but the final delivery of his first over was mustered over the mid-wicket for a six by Colin Munro. The over costed 12 runs.
He came back with his second over on the trot, and without showing any improvement gave away 18 runs.
Shardul got trolled badly after a dismal show
Twitterati’s were quick to react on the terrible show from Shardul Thakur and started mocking him with various posts.

Talking about the match, after the completion of 10 overs, New Zealand was rolling with a scoreline of 91 for the loss of 1 wicket. Martin Guptill was the batsman to be dismissed for a quick-fire 30 off 19 deliveries. Skipper Kane Williamson and left-hander Colin Munro were on the crease toiling with the Indian bowlers.
